ABSTRACT
Rezakhani A, Goodarzi M, Zarifi M, Orangi H Normal
electrocardiographic parameters of base apex lead of horses, Onl J Vet Res, 13 (1):111-116, 2009. This study was conducted on 368
horses of both sexes and different ages. Horses were included in this study
after a careful clinical examination to exclude concomitant heart disease. The electrocardiogram (ECG) was recorded on a
base apex lead using bipolar limb lead I while the animal was kept quiet. Mean
heart rate was 39.39±0.44; the heart
rate of female was higher than males and the heart rate of less than 3 years
old was higher than those older than 6 years. The P wave was positive in all
horses. Direction of the main section of the QRS complex was negative and
mainly biphasic. The T wave direction was variable. The amplitudes of P, R, S,
T (+) and T (-) were 0.251 ± 0.005; 0.337 ±
0.015; 2.231 ± 0.034; +0.293 ± 0.012; -0.613 ± 0.021,
respectively, and the durations of P, P-R, QRS, Q-T and T were 0.128 ± 0.001; 0.321 ± 0.003; 0.102 ± 0.001; 0.477 ± 0.003 and 0.121 ± 0.001,
respectively.
