ABSTRACT
Kalef DA, Fadhil AI., Incidence of Babesia
gibsoni in stray dogs (Iraq), Online J Vet Res., 17
(1): 32-35, 2013 During a
stray dog extermination campaign in Baghdad, Iraq, 108 blood samples were
collected for detection of Babesia Gibsoni.
Forty eight percent were found to have Babesia gibsoni
ranging from 13 to 92%. Highest
infection rates occurred during autumn (69%) and lowest in winter (25%).
There was a significant difference (P<0.05) between female and male dog infection
rates in some areas. It
is the first reported survey of this condition in stray dogs in Iraq to assist
in its control.
Key words: Babesia gibsoni, blood, dogs, Baghdad.
