ABSTRACT

Haghighi S, Moaddab H, Ghashghaii A, Afshari E, Shahbazi Y., Congenital suburethral diverticulum with anal atresia in a female Holstein calf, Onl J Vet Res.,  16 (3):123-126, 2012. A one day old female calf with absence of anus and perineal swelling was presented for treatment. Examination showed Atresia ani and a soft fluctuating mass adjacent to the vulva. Ultrasonographic examination revealed the perineal sac with a distinct 5 cm internal diameter wall filled with ecoic fluid. The urine filled sac was surgically resected and microscopic examination showed a transitional cell epithelium lining the perineal sac. Based on anatomical location and histological examinations the condition was diagnosed as suburethral diverticulum.

Key words: calf, suburethral diverticulum, atresia ani.
