ABSTRACT

Azari O, Kheirandish R, Sakhaee E, Morovati M., Disseminated cutaneous melanocytoma in an Arabian mare, Onl J Vet Res.,  15 (4): 390-394, 2011. A 14-year-old Arabian gray mare was presented for evaluation of painless, multifocal, egg shaped black masses on the base of the tail, perineum, anus, vulva, trunk and neck regions. The horse was found to be clinically normal but unable to mate due to the presence of the masses. The mass tissue consisted of small nets of atypical melanocytes with sparse mitosis and cutaneous melanocytoma was diagnosed. Because of the large and disseminated melanocytoma, complete surgical resection of the tumors was impossible, so medical therapy with Cimetidine was recommended.
