ABSTRACT
Goodarzi N, Mahdi Zangeneh M.,
Observations on differential macroscopic anatomy in human, canine, equine and
ovine liver, Onl J Vet Res., 18(11): 845-850, 2014. Differential macroscopic
anatomy of dog, donkey, sheep and human livers are described. Ten specimens
from each species were examined. In sheep the liver was located completely on
the right of the median plane, whilst in donkeys and humans mostly on the
right. In the dog the liver was oriented symmetrically to both sides. In sheep
the liver had right,
left, caudate and quadrate lobes similar to humans. In donkeys only the left
lobe had medial and lateral parts whereas in dogs both right and left lobe had
medial and lateral parts. There was no papillary process in the liver of the
donkey. The findings suggested most similarity in lobation
and macroscopic anatomy between sheep and humans, but most differences between
dogs and humans.
Key words : Liver, human,
ruminant, equine, carnivore.
