Effect of Aloe vera methanolic
extract IP injection on immunological and hematological markers in beluga (Huso huso), Onl
J Vet Res., 18(8): 651-661,
2014. The effect of Aloe vera
extract 100 and 200mg/kg intraperitoneal (IP) injections on immunological and
hematological markers in Beluga fish are
described. Compared with values found in IP saline controls, results
suggested that both doses of Aloe vera enhanced serum lysozyme 1, 2 and 4 weeks after
injection. Alternative complement
pathway (ACH50) values increased 1 week after 100mg/kg and 3 weeks after
200mg/kg injections. IP injection of 100mg/kg Aloe vera extract increased total WBC and
lymphocyte counts compared with fish injected 200mg/kg or saline controls.
Hemoglobin and hematocrit values were elevated compared with saline controls at
all times after injection of 100 or 200mg/kg Aloe vera extract. Results suggest that A. vera methanolic
extract may have increased innate humoral and cellular responses in Beluga
fish.
