ABSTRACT
Ghaem S, Ghazal
K., Effect of Ajowan (Trachyspermum
ammi) dry seed powder on broiler growth, Onl J Vet Res., 26
(3):164-172, 2022. We report
effect of ajowan seed powder as growth promoter for
broilers. We recorded daily feed intake, live weight gain and feed conversion
ratio compared with non-treated and salinomycin controls.
Chicks were supplemented daily with 0.5% (5g/kg), 1% (10g/kg) and 2% (20g/kg) ajowan dry seed powder per kg of standard diet for 35 days.
Antibiotic controls were given 0.5% salinomycin. Normal
controls were not supplemented. Compared with controls, 2% ajowan
boosted (p<0.05) intake by 2-4th weeks 6-9% and
weight gain by 13-20%. Feed
conversion ratio was boosted 8% in birds given 2% ajowan
but 8.9% in those given salinomycin. We find that Ajowan supplement may boost performance in broilers.
Key Words: Ajowan supplement, broilers,
growth, intake, food conversion.
