ABSTRACT

Bahmani M, Charmi A, Parto P., Ultrastructure of hematopoietic renal tissue in juvenile Acipenser persicus sturgeon, Onl J Vet Res., 25 (8):577-585, 2021. Hematopoietic renal tissue plays a major role in immunity in sturgeon fish. We excised renal tissue from anaesthetized Acipenser persicus stugeons for microscopy. The kidneys of A. persicus sturgeons were located in the ventral part of the vertebral chordal column with distinct dorsal, central (body) and caudal parts. Hematopoietic islets were found throughout  but caudal areas were devoid of renal tubules or malphigian bodies. Islets of inter-renal and chromaffin cells occurred along posterior cardinal veins. In dorsal areas, hematopoietic areas were less prominent whereas tubules and glomeruli were distinct. Nephron cells were found in central areas whereas hematopoietic cells aggregated as islets in the periphery between tubules in parenchyma between excretory elements. Hematopoietic tissue consisted of blood cells at different stages of maturation located in reticular stroma but was devoid of lymphomyeloid cells. Reticular cells and collagen fibers were located between renal tubules with irregular nuclei which differentiated them from hematopoietic cells. Findings are supported by images.
